Washington Nationals infielder Starlin Castro has been placed on administrate leave after a domestic violence incident.

The Washington Nationals could be without their infielder Starlin Castro for a while, as he has been placed on administrative leave while the MLB does its investigation on a domestic violence incident involving the four-time All-Star.

According to Britt Ghiroli of The Athletic, the administrative leave will be for seven days and will commence on Friday afternoon. While we do not know when the alleged incident took place, Castro had been placed on the restricted list a month ago back on June 16. While Castro is having a good season at the plate, the Nationals find themselves below .500 heading into the second half.

Sadly, the domestic violence incidents are becoming increasingly common in baseball recently.

Washington Nationals IF Starlin Castro involved in domestic violence incident

This is Castro’s second season with the Nationals, as he signed a two-year deal with Washington back in 2020 for $12 million. He will be hitting free agency this winter ahead of his age-32 season out of the Dominican Republic. Despite slashing .283/.333/.375 in 87 games on the year, Washington finds itself at 42-47 on the year heading into the second half of the 2021 campaign.

So the earliest Castro could possibly return to the Nationals lineup would be Friday, July 23. While an alleged domestic violence incident crushes any of his potential trade value, it will be interesting to see what the Nationals do as the deadline approaches. The New York Mets sit atop the NL East standings, but they have not exactly run away with the division just yet. Rival teams have a shot.

Castro will not be playing for the Nationals in their first week after the 2021 MLB All-Star Break.
