Coco Gauff is out of 2020 Tokyo Olympics for positive COVID test

Young tennis star Coco Gauff broke the news on social media that she will be out of the Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for COVID-19.

As the Tokyo Olympics inch closer, more news of positive COVID-19 tests are taking out aspiring participants. It was reported that two positive results came from within the Olympic Village, a concerning sign given that the Games are a little over a week from starting.

On Sunday, a young tennis star announced that she would be missing the Olympics. Coco Gauff will not participate in Tokyo because of a positive coronavirus test.

Rising star Coco Gauff posted to her social media account Sunday afternoon that she is out of the upcoming Olympic Games. This would’ve been her first time representing Team USA, and she would’ve been the youngest tennis player to compete in the Games since Mario Ancic competed at 16 and Jelena Dokic at 17, according to NBC Sports.

"“I am so disappointed that I have to share the news that I have tested positive for COVID-19, and won’t be able to play in the Olympic Games in Tokyo. It has always been a dream of min to represent at the Olympics…I want to wish Team USA the best of the luck and a safe games for every Olympian and the entire Olympic family,” Gauff tweeted on her Twitter account."
