Mets forget to play baseball, allow Pirates to 3 runs on infield hit
The New York Mets just recorded one of the most embarrassing plays that baseball fans will see this season.
Let’s go ahead and chalk Sunday up as a rough one for New York Mets pitcher Taijuan Walker. In a road showdown against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the right-handed starter didn’t make it out of the first inning, giving up four hits and five earned runs.
You’re almost not going to believe how three of those were scored, though. On an infield hit, Walker went to go field the ball, but then somehow managed to nearly send it into the stands. Next thing you knew, Pittsburgh had a 6-0 lead.

How in the world did that actually happen? In the clip above, you can see just how confused everyone on the field was for the Mets. They were basically just standing there while Pittsburgh increased its lead.
After letting some time fly by, Walker then woke up a little and sprinted to try and make a play. It was too little, too late, however, and the damage was already done. This is the kind of blooper that will keep a manager up late at night.
For skipper Luis Rojas, he’s already been informed this weekend that Jacob deGrom is headed to the Injured List. Now, he has to put up with this nonsense? It’s indeed been a rough couple of days for the NL East-leading squad.
