When is 2021 NBA Free Agency?
By Scott Rogust
With the 2021 NBA Finals set to conclude this week, the beginning of free agency is not too far away.
The 2021 NBA Finals has been nothing short of exciting, with the series set to end on Tuesday or Thursday evening with either the Milwaukee Bucks or Phoenix Suns hoisting the Larry O’Brien Trophy. From then, the 2021 NBA Draft is the next event on the calendar on July 29. But that is not when the fun ends.
NBA fans, and sports fanatics in general, look forward to the chaos that is the free agency. But given the late start to the 2020-21 season, just when exactly does the free agency period begin this summer?
When does NBA free agency begin?
The official start to free agency begins on Aug. 2 at 6:00 p.m. ET, when teams can negotiate with free agents. But Aug. 6 at 12:01 p.m. ET is when said free agent players can put pen to paper with their respective team.
Names like Kawhi Leonard and Chris Paul can technically become free agents if they were to decline their player options, but that does not appear to be a given. Leaving those two names out, some of the top unrestricted free agents available include Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan and Mike Conley. Yet, there will be intrigue surrounding restricted free agents in John Collins of the Atlanta Hawks and Lonzo Ball of the New Orleans Pelicans.
So there you have it, NBA fans. Be sure to have Twitter open and notifications turned on at 6:00 p.m. ET on Aug. 2 to be sure you do not miss any NBA free agency deals.
