Liverpool have the financial power to purchase a world-class attacker this summer, but a modest move for Jarrod Bowen would be much more cost-efficient.

Liverpool have been linked with a number of big-name attackers this summer who have a chance to help refresh Jurgen Klopp’s attacking corps. Jarrod Bowen lacks the name recognition as many of the club’s recent targets, but buying him could turn into a stroke of genius for the higher-ups at Anfield.

According to The AthleticLiverpool want to offload either Xherdan Shaqiri or Divock Origi to make way for the West Ham winger. Shaqiri seems to be the more likely of the duo to make way due to Lazio’s recent interest in the diminutive winger.

It’s unclear at the moment how much money West Ham will demand for the English winger. Bowen may not be a prolific goalscorer, but he was a key figure on both ends of the pitch for David Moyes’ squad last season. Losing him would be a bitter pill for Hammers fans to swallow.

Jarrod Bowen is perfect for Liverpool

It’s easy to understand why Klopp is interested in bringing Bowen into the fold. He’s a tireless worker on the wing who is willing to press the opposition to the point of exhaustion. Bowen doesn’t have the offensive skill of flair players like Mohamed Salah, but he can make up for that lack of quality in the final third with his sheer will to succeed.

In many ways, that makes Bowen more similar to Sadio Mane. That’s not to say he’s the Liverpool veteran’s equal, but stylistically they are quite similar. Both players harass the opposition before trying to use their speed to turn turnovers into quick scoring opportunities for their respective sides.

Next. Bryan Gil is crucial to Tottenham's rebuild. dark

Bowen’s seamless fit into Liverpool’s current system should make him a comfortable purchase for Klopp and company as long as West Ham remains reasonable with their demands. Buying him for anything under £40 million would prove to be excellent value for Liverpool in the long run. Bowen isn’t the sort of signing that’s going to electrify the club’s passionate fan base right away, but he’ll win over supporters with his effort in the long run. This has a chance to be one of Liverpool’s best purchases during Klopp’s tenure.
