Chicago Cubs shortstop Javier Baez pulled off an impressive no-look tag during Thursday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
All eyes are going to be on the Chicago Cubs for the next week, as they are expected to be heavy sellers at the July 30 trade deadline. One name that is floating around as a potential candidate is shortstop Javier Baez, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. For Cubs fans, they will certainly miss plays like the one Baez pulled off on Thursday night if he were to be traded.
In the bottom of the second inning, Tommy Edman of the St. Louis Cardinals attempted to steal second base. But Cubs catcher Willson Contreras fired a pitch from Adbert Alzolay to Baez, who managed to tag Edman out … without even looking.
Cubs: Javier Baez pulls off no-look tag against Cardinals
What an impressive play by Baez. This certainly made up for the back-to-back errors he recorded on Monday.
Heading into the deadline, the Cubs are expected to try and trade utility man Kris Bryant and closer Craig Kimbrel. However, the team is reportedly prepared to negotiate contract extensions with Baez and first baseman Anthony Rizzo before they attempt to move them at the deadline.
With the rumors continuing to swirl, Baez is focused on getting baserunners out without even looking in their direction.
