Boston Red Sox starter Eduardo Rodriguez left Friday’s game against the Yankees in some apparent discomfort.

After throwing just 25 pitches in a start against the Yankees on Friday, Red Sox lefty Eduardo Rodriguez walked off the field with manager Alex Cora and the team’s trainer with unknown reasons.

Rodriguez’s final line on the night consisted of allowing one earned run on two hits while striking and walking one batter each over one inning.

Reasons for Eduardo Rodriguez leaving his latest Red Sox start are still unknown

The first thing that might come to mind for those seeing Rodriguez walk off the field without any visible type of injury is the history with his heart condition. Rodriguez was diagnosed with COVID-19 last summer and later contracted myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscles. He was barred from any physical activity for three months and missed the entire 2020 season.

Hopefully this situation and Rodriguez leaving the field on Friday have no correlation as it’s a circumstance which could keep him off the field for the sake of his physical health.

Red Sox: Eduardo Rodriguez suffers concerning injury

In 18 starts this season, Rodriguez has posted a 5.19 ERA, 1.332 WHIP, and a 10.6 K/9 rate over 95.1 innings. His season totals aren’t pretty but Rodriguez appeared to be coming around in his last five starts. He’s allowed just nine earned runs over 28.2 innings (2.83 ERA) in that span.

Rodriguez was a key member of the 2018 Red Sox team that won the World Series and will be crucial in the final push towards October if he’s healthy.
