Cleveland Indians pitcher Nick Wittgren addressed the death threats he received on social media following the team’s latest loss.
After taking the loss in a 10-5 defeat against the Rays on Friday, Indians pitcher Nick Wittgren shared death threats from angry social media users.
Wittgren entered the ninth inning of a 4-4 game before he was charged with five earned runs on three hits including a home run. He also walked one batter and recorded just one out before getting pulled.

Unfortunately, this prompted the likes of keyboard warriors to send messages to Wittgren which he says a large majority of athletes to face in the modern era of social media and sports. The threats were targeted at Wittgren as well as his wife and child.

Wittgren’s wife, Ashley, took to Twitter to share her thoughts on the family’s death threats, also reiterating the notion it’s part of the unfortunate side of being an athlete, but there’s no excuse for it.
It should go without saying that it’s one thing to be a passionate fan and express yourself with criticism about a player or your team, but to take it to the level of issuing death threats based on the outcome of a game is ridiculous.
The loss puts Cleveland nine games out of first place in the AL Central, and six games behind a Wild Card spot.
