Backing up a tweet from a new teammate, Auburn quarterback Bo Nix has said he’s not afraid of Alabama.

Media days around college football provide ample opportunities for quotes from coaches and players, and last week Auburn quarterback Bo Nix didn’t disappoint while giving bulletin-board material for rival Alabama in the process.

After new teammate Tony Fair, a grad transfer from UAB, tweeted “We comin to take the head off the elephant” (in reference to Alabama’s mascot), Nix doubled-down at SEC Media Days last week.

“I think that actually, I like the quote,” Nix said when asked about the tweet. “I think it’s important because we’re not scared of Alabama. I know that a lot of people want us to be scared, but we’re really not.”

Last year against Alabama, Nix went 23-for-38 with two interceptions in a 42-13 loss. He acknowledged the Tigers were beaten “pretty bad” while adding the moral victory of the game being close at the beginning. As a freshman in 2019, Nix went 15-for-30 with two total touchdowns in a win over the Crimson Tide.

This year Auburn will try to beat Alabama under first-year head coach Bryan Harsin, who has been complimentary of his new quarterback.

Bo Nix may not be afraid of Alabama, but he certainly should be

Alabama loses several players in early rounds of the NFL Draft every year, but top recruiting classes every year keep Nick Saban’s cupboard stocked. On the defense Nix and Auburn will face this year, the Crimson Tide have six First Team preseason All-SEC selections and 10 players overall on the 1st-3rd All-SEC preseason teams.

Yes, that’s 10 of 11 starters on the first, second or third preseason All-SEC teams. Nix might say he’s not afraid of Alabama, as a team leader would, but the prospect of facing that defense certainly should have him shaking in his cleats.
