After dealing with Aaron Rodgers as the Green Bay Packers starting quarterback since 2008, Chicago Bears fans are thrilled with the latest news.
Only one more year. Two at the worst.
That’s where things stand for the Green Bay Packers, Aaron Rodgers and their seemingly eternal hold on the NFC North. With the team reporting for training camp on Tuesday before their first practice in Wednesday, news leaked that Rodgers saw his contract shortened by a year, allowing him to hit free agency after the 2022 season.
Additionally, the Packers can’t place any franchise or transition tags on him moving forward.
*The 2023 year in Aaron Rodgers’ contract – the last one in his current deal -- would be voided, with no tags allowed in the future, per sources.

The new agreement, once finalized, would help set up Aaron Rodgers’ departure from Green Bay after this season, per sources. https://t.co/NojVojcHjy

For Chicago Bears fans, this is wonderful. It means that while rookie quarterback Justin Fields is cheap and hopefully ascending into stardom, Rodgers will either be on his way out of Titletown or completely gone. And, from the report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it appears Rodgers only has one year left in the green and gold.
The Bears are finally getting rid of Aaron Rodgers in the near future
In Chicago, the update has been met with glee, as can be seen on Twitter:
I, for one, enjoyed the Aaron Rodgers drama. To me, it doesn’t change the inevitable after this upcoming season.

As the #Bears window starts to open, Rodgers should be gone.
This. The Bears are not serious contenders in 2021 no matter what happens in GB, folks should accept this. But clearing the Rodgers roadblock out of Fields way from 2022-On would be amazing. https://t.co/bkwBsUZTuD

As a Bears fan, Rodgers coming back for just this season doesn't really bother me. The Bears aren't built to win it all right now. The development of Justin Fields is the approach right now. The future is most important. And Rodgers will likely be gone in said future.

In the short term, of course, this isn’t great news for Chicago. The Packers are the overwhelming favorite to win the division once again and potentially go to Super Bowl LVI after losing the previous two NFC Championship Games.
Still, Rodgers has been the proverbial thorn in Chicago’s side for the better part of 15 years. If that’s going to be extracted within the next nine months or so, all the better.
