5 teams who should make a trade for Deshaun Watson
The Eagles keep surfacing as a team who could make a deal for Watson. Aside from ESPN’s Adam Schefter calling them the best-equipped team to trade for Watson, the very plugged in local reporter Howard Eskin further fueled the fire last week. (h/t to Pro Football Talk, quote via Jon Marks of WIP Radio).
“Based on the information that I’ve got, when Deshaun Watson is traded, I think there’s a 90 percent chance that he will be with the Philadelphia Eagles. And just based on all the information that I’ve gotten, that’s what I’ve come down with.”
With two first-round picks in 2022, and the possibility of a third if things work out well for Carson Wentz in Indianapolis (it’d be a second-round pick otherwise), the Eagles are indeed in a great and enviable position to make a deal for Watson. Houston’s asking price of at least three first-round picks hints at an idea Philadelphia has made an offer along that line, with the third possibly kicking to 2023 or later rather than all three coming in 2022.
The Eagles also have a young quarterback in Jalen Hurts that should appeal to the Texans.
Eagles GM Howie Roseman is an aggressive deal maker, and it’s been out there widely and practically since the beginning they’d be interested in Watson. A number of premium draft picks and Hurts probably gets it done, assuming there’s clarity on Watson’s situation coming soon. If not, the Eagles are probably out right now or the price goes down with Hurts the only virtual guarantee to be part of the deal if Watson is able to play this season.
