Leading up to the MLB trade deadline, New York Mets fans are now focused on Max Scherzer in addition to Kris Bryant.

Baseball fans across the country can’t wait to see what surprising moves are made before the MLB trade deadline arrives on July 30. One team that figures to be working around the clock leading up to things are the New York Mets.

The NL East club has been linked with a deal for Kris Bryant for a while now, but he’s not the only star player on their minds. Per SNY’s Andy Martino, the Mets are also keen on potentially adding Max Scherzer. Could the two be a package deal headed for Flushing soon?

The New York Mets could end up with Max Scherzer and Kris Bryant this week

As things stand, the Mets are 53-45 on the year and 3.5 games ahead of the Phillies for first place in the NL East standings. With New York hoping to keep that division lead and get themselves ready for the postseason, it’d make sense as to why they’re being aggressive.

New owner Steve Cohen has said ever since he bought the team that he wants to bring back championship-level ball back to Citi Field. By potentially bringing in Bryant and Scherzer, that’d sure send a big-time message to the rest of the league.

While Bryant has struggled at times this year at the plate, he’s still hitting .269 with 17 homers and 50 RBI. Adding him to the middle of the lineup would provide quite an extra much for the Mets. As for Scherzer, he’s 7-4 with a 2.83 ERA.

Adding a veteran arm like this to the rotation for the stretch run would do wonders for this club. Mets fans will wait to see what happens, but some big news could be on the way for the team.
