Team USA almost completes epic gold-medal comeback in team gymnastics without Simone Biles
The USA Gymnastics team won silver at the 2021 Olympics after Simone Biles was forced to withdraw due to a medical issue.
The Women’s USA Gymnastics team was aiming to win their third straight Olympic team title and probably would have completed the three-peat if not for Simone Biles having to withdraw from the competition due to a medical condition, USA Gymnastics.
“She will be assessed daily to determine medical clearance for future competitions,” USA Gymnastics said in a statement.
Team USA Women’s Gymnastics wins silver after Simone Biles forced to withdraw
Biles was set to compete on the uneven bars but Jordan Chiles took her place after Biles had to withdraw. While Biles was forced to withdraw from the team final, she didn’t withdraw from being a world-class teammate. Biles returned to the arena to give each of her teammates a hug and watched from the sideline as her teammates competed while she was in her warmups.
It had to be a bittersweet moment for Biles knowing how hard she’s worked and the pressure she must have felt being the leader of the team and the greatest women’s gymnast of all time being unable to help her team win another gold medal.
Silver is a great honor and should be celebrated, however. ROC took home the gold.
