Davante Adams is not about to take a hometown discount to stay with the Green Bay Packers once he hits free agency next offseason.

Entering a contract season, perennial Pro Bowl wide receiver Davante Adams is not down with the idea of taking a hometown discount to keep playing with the Green Bay Packers.

Adams is entering his eight NFL season out of Fresno State with Green Bay. He has been a Pro Bowler each of the last four seasons and is coming off his first All-Pro nod in 2020. While Adams is not ruling out a return to Green Bay on a new contract, he is dead-set on getting paid once he hits NFL free agency. He fully expects to be the highest paid wide receiver in football next season.

Here is what he said about potentially taking a hometown discount should his quarterback Aaron Rodgers be back with the club in 2022.

Green Bay Packers: Davante Adams is not willing to take a hometown discount

With Adams rapidly approaching 30-years-old and at the top of his game, why would he not want to cash in to get the absolute most out of his value? Yes, he may not be able to win as prolifically elsewhere if he were to leave Green Bay. However, there are no guarantees the Packers will be the least bit good in 2022, especially if Rodgers leaves the organization as many would expect him to.

Adams will be the top receiver hitting free agency next winter. While he could stick with the Packers, they are going to have to pay him a premium to keep him around. Otherwise, he could play for any of the other 31 NFL franchises, which could include a possible reunion with his college teammate in Las Vegas Raiders starting quarterback Derek Carr. Adams is commanding top-dollar.

If the Packers plan to go cheap on Adams, then he will be as good as gone entering a contract year.
