The Yankees made a splash by trading for left-handed power hitter Joey Gallo, who needs to make a big change before arriving in New York.
Joey Gallo will play the rest of the 2021 season in pinstripes.
The Yankees reportedly agreed to trade for the All-Star lefty outfielder on Wednesday, sending a squadron of prospects to the Rangers to make it happen.
The playoff push is now on, with one of the game’s most powerful hitters joining the lineup in New York.
How did Yankees Twitter react to getting Joey Gallo?
The reaction to the trade was generally positive, with a focus on the upside of adding a hitter like Gallo.

*Improves the balance of the lineup as they were too right-handed
*Gives them versatility as he can play RF,LF,3B,1B
*Improves OF de
*adds athleticism
*might hit 50 HR playing 1/2 games at Yankee stadium
*controllable thru 2022
*can handle NY pressure
The Yankees have definitely upgraded their lefty production at the plate.
11 Yankees left-handed batters have had a PA this season...they combined for 22 HR.

Joey Gallo has 25 on his own https://t.co/cCAVOi6lc9
They’ve also added a strong outfield presence.
Joey Gallo will definitely help the Yankees. Elite, versatile defender and lefty power bat. He's a good fit, especially with questions as to when, if ever, Giancarlo Stanton is gonna be an everyday outfielder again.

However, Gallo’s penchant for striking out definitely got brought up in the discussion of the trade.

He’ll have to make up for the strikeouts by taking advantage of playing at Yankee Stadium.
Joey Gallo has 25 HR this season

If all of his 2021 batted balls over 300 ft had been hit at Yankee Stadium? He'd have 29 HR
Unsurprisingly, that's the most of any single ballpark
So Joey Gallo pulls the ball a good amount and hits fly balls BUT only 26% of his fly balls are pulled. It's mostly his ground balls and line drives that are pulled. Interesting but yea, his bat will play in Yankee Stadium!

Joey Gallo at Yankee Stadium seems like something that would be illegal but I will love every swing of it

The wildcard race in the American League is going to be fascinating.
The second wild card-leading A’s add Starling Marte. The Yankees counter with Joey Gallo. It is the second wild card, but teams are going for it.

Gallo will have to comply with New York’s strict appearance policy requiring players to have their hair cut above the collar and no beards. That means Gallo will have to shave.

Anybody have a clean shaven pic of Joey Gallo?
— Jensen Lewis (@JLEWFifty) July 29, 2021
That look will be interesting his first day in #Yankees pinstripes
I’m more upset about Gallo’s beard than anything tbh
— Sarah Griffin (@skg_18) July 29, 2021
rip joey gallo’s beard https://t.co/RM9HQz8zFN
— matthew ritchie (@mkrwrt) July 29, 2021
Maybe Joey Gallo's beard is the reason why he strikes out so much. Are the Yankees on to something: my column
— Alexa Ross (@AlexaRossTV) July 29, 2021
But he doesn’t have to get rid of all the facial hair. Mustaches are allowed.
Joey Gallo should keep a mustache.

Rangers fans were sad to see Gallo go, but they’re getting a haul of prospects to enjoy.
The Texas Rangers will receive RHP Glenn Otto, 2B Ezequiel Duran, SS Josh Smith and 2B/OF Trevor Hauver as part of the package from the New York Yankees in the Joey Gallo trade, sources tell ESPN.
— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) July 29, 2021
Rangers are getting massive haul of prospects in this deal. Others involved, too.
Right field seats at Globe Life Field are about to be a lot less interesting. #gallo #JoeyGallo #rangers

Gallo is batting .223/.379./.490 with 25 home runs and 55 RBI. He leads the major leagues in walks, but his strikeout total is high at 125.
He joins the Yankees sitting third in the AL East at 52-47. They are three games out of the AL Wild Card places.
