The United States had another huge day for medals and increased their lead over the People’s Republic of China at the top of the 2021 Olympics medal count leaderboard.

Gymnast Suni Lee took advantage of the absence of Simone Biles and took home the gold medal for Team USA in the women’s all-around individual final. It was an emotional moment and the reaction of her family was pure joy. Her performance, along with a monster swim from Caleb Dressel and others helped Team USA build their lead at the top of the 2021 Olympics medal count leaderboard.

In terms of just gold medals, Team USA (14) trails both the People’s Republic of China (15) and Japan (15). A tie between ROC (8) and Australia (8) rounds out the top five. Medals will be handed out in roughly a dozen events on Friday, including swimming, table tennis, BMX racing, archery and more, so the United States has an excellent chance to continue building on its lead.
