Padres pitching rotation is filthy and unfair after trading for Max Scherzer
By John Buhler
The San Diego Padres’ rotation is no longer fair after they have traded for Max Scherzer.
By trading for Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer, the San Diego Padres now have arguably the best starting rotation in all of baseball.
Re-christened as Slam Diego only a season ago, the Friars have successfully traded for four stud starting pitchers in the last calendar year. While Mike Clevinger is on the mend with Tommy John surgery, Yu Darvish and Blake Snell have had varying levels of success on their new team. With Scherzer now firmly in the mix, let’s take a look and see what the Padres rotation looks like now.
There has never been a better time to be a San Diego-an, a San Dieg-ite or a Padres fan.
Padres Roster: Updated San Diego Padres rotation after Max Scherzer trade
- Max Scherzer
- Yu Darvish
- Joe Musgrove
- Chris Paddack
- Blake Snell
While you could argue for one and two when it comes to their newest ace, let’s side with Scherzer being at the very top of the Padres rotation with Darvish being an elite No. 2. The third pitcher in the Padres rotation will be “Mr. No-Hitter” Joe Musgrove. Last year’s ace in Chris Paddack would be No. 4 and relative newcomer Blake Snell moves down to No. 5 while he tries to figure it out.
As you can see, this rotation does not include Dinelson Lamet or Ryan Weathers. Both of whom have started at least 11 games for the 2021 Padres. While Paddack and Snell’s ERAs are both over 5.00, San Diego is hoping the second half will be a tad kinder to them than the first half was. Expect for the Padres starting rotation to be reshuffled a bit once Scherzer really gets into the fold.
If they don’t win the World Series, it will be sadder than when Ron Burgundy swore on the news.
