The New York Mets have pulled off a massive move on trade deadline day, acquiring superstar second baseman Javier Baez from the Chicago Cubs.
In a massive stunner, the New York Mets have done the unthinkable, landing star shortstop Javier Baez from the Chicago Cubs.
The Mets have also acquired pitcher Trevor Williams in the deal.
While Kris Bryant had been linked with a move to Flushing, Baez is on his way to Citi Field according to ESPN insider Jeff Passan.
Javier Baez has been traded by the Chicago Cubs to the New York Mets
Just recently, Baez said he loved the idea of potentially playing with Francisco Lindor down the road. Well, he’s gotten his wish, as the two will now form quite the duo for New York’s infield. In terms of giving the Mets a grade for this one, they’re getting an A-.
While Baez may not be having his best season at the plate, he’s still hitting .248 with 22 homers and 65 RBI on the year. For the Cubs, they’re getting former first-round pick Pete Crow-Armstrong in exchange. The 19-year-old center fielder entered the year as New York’s No. 5 prospect in the system.
He’s known for his impressive wheels and projects to be a leadoff hitter down the road. Because of his bright future, we’re giving the Mets a B+. It was clear that Baez didn’t have long-term plans with the team. Now, everyone is just waiting to see where Bryant gets traded to.
It’s been a wild and hectic 24 hours for Cubs fans, as they’ve now seen Anthony Rizzo and Baez shipped to new teams. They’ve meant so much to the organization. The same can be said for Bryant, who will find out soon enough where he’ll be playing next.
