Francisco Lindor had a priceless reaction to Mets trading for Javy Baez
By Scott Rogust
To say that Francisco Lindor was ecstatic about the New York Mets’ trade acquisition of Javier Baez is a massive understatement.
The New York Mets, who were heavily expected to make a huge move at the MLB trade deadline, did not disappoint. With the huge names being taken off the board, Mets fans began to get nervous that they would be silent at the trade deadline. But thanks to a push from shortstop Francisco Lindor, the Mets acquired shortstop Javier Baez from the Chicago Cubs.
After the trade went through that brought Baez and pitcher Trevor Williams from the Cubs in exchange for outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong, Lindor was ecstatic. According to Howie Rose, Lindor “let loose with a primal scream” upon hearing of the Baez trade. Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News said that Lindor, closer Edwin Diaz and other players were hugging and shouting on the field.
Francisco Lindor ecstatic to see Javier Baez land with Mets
Yeah, Lindor is liking the Baez trade for sure.
When Baez heads over to New York, he will be starting at shortstop due to Lindor sitting on the injured list with a Grade 2 oblique strain, where he is expected to be sidelined for the next couple of weeks as of this writing. Once Lindor returns, the Mets will have fun pairing him alongside Baez to create a dynamic double-play combination for the remainder of the season.
Through 91 games with the Cubs, Baez is slashing .248/.292/.484 while recording 22 home runs, 65 RBI, 48 runs scored and 83 hits.
The Mets needed to make a move at the deadline to help build upon their lead in the NL East. They felt as though adding Baez would help them in their quest of making their first trip to the World Series since 2015.
Enjoy it now, Mets fans, because Baez is going to enter free agency this upcoming winter to cash in on a similar contract that Lindor received this past offseason.
