The fate of the few remaining Chicago Cubs stars could be decided on Thursday, with Javy Baez now in the mix to be dealt at the MLB Trade Deadline.

If Thursday’s chaos was just an appetizer to what the final hours of the trade deadline have in store, then baseball fans truly need to buckle up and brace for impact.

Max Scherzer, Anthony Rizzo, and surprisingly Trea Turner are all off the market and headed to new teams. Kris Bryant has been the subject of more than a few trade rumors over the past few months, but he is the last superstar trade chip left standing ahead of Friday’s deadline.

Cubs fans don’t want to see him go, but all signs have pointed toward that very thing happening. Unfortunately for North Siders, it appears that Bryant won’t be the only fan favorite who could still be moved.

According to Jon Heyman, the Cubs are also in talks with the Mets to send Javy Baez to New York as well.

Baez has been on the Mets radar recently, both because he fits their lineup but also because he openly stated that he’d sign there in free agency. All of that has combined to peak the Mets interest in perhaps trading for Baez instead of Bryant — or maybe both.

MLB Trade Rumors: Mets could trade for Javy Baez over Kris Bryant

“Bryant has been linked to the Mets for weeks but Baez is in the discussions as well. Baez could replace his great friend Lindor at shortstop, then switch to second base once Lindor returns,” Heyman reported on Thursday. “Baez said aloud this week he wanted to team with Francisco. So either Bryant or Baez are possible for [the Mets].”

It’s unclear if they’ll both be dealt, as Heyman was sure to point out that it’s Baez or Bryant in New York. After the chaos of Thursday night, however, who knows if this ends up as another megadeal like the one we saw the Dodgers and Nationals put together on Thursday night.
