Miles Robinson delivers USMNT game-winning goal for Gold Cup win
This marked the seventh time the U.S. men’s team has won the Gold Cup dating back to 1991, and it was the first time since 2017, when Team USA beat Jamaica 2-1 in the final.
The victory was even sweeter, given the stakes, how many of USMNT’s best players were missing and the fact that it was a rivalry game against most of Mexico’s normal players. Throw in missing out on qualifying for the World Cup just a few years ago, and all the ups and downs of the last few years for American soccer, and this was a pretty resounding, impressive victory.
Mexico had plenty of chances but was unable to put them in the back of the net. Team USA capitalized in extra time, when the stakes were highest, with Robinson delivering the decisive blow.
