The New Orleans Saints have wasted no time in signing veteran cornerback Prince Amukamara after he had a workout with the team.

It looks like Prince Amukamara is going to get another shot after all. Over the weekend, the New Orleans Saints brought in the veteran cornerback for a workout. Now, 24 hours later, it’s been reported by ESPN’s Dan Graziano that the team will indeed be signing him.

Last season, Amukamara was on the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad but never suited up for a game. Now, he’s hoping to get back on the field on Sundays with the Saints. The fact that he was able to earn this deal after a workout shows he’s still got plenty left in the tank.

Prince Amukamara has signed with the New Orleans Saints in a strong depth move

While Amukamara’s best days are behind him, he did more than enough over the weekend to earn a contract from the Saints. Despite not playing in a game last season, Amukamara started 15 games for the Chicago Bears back in 2019. That campaign, he posted 53 tackles. The year before, he tied his career-high by posting three interceptions.

In total, he’s appeared in 113 games throughout his long career, starting 99 of those contests. Before playing three seasons for Chicago, Amukamara spent one year in Jacksonville and five memorable seasons with the New York Giants.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder was with the Giants in 2012 when they went on to stun Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, giving the organization their fourth championship.

Looking ahead to 2021, Amukamara will hope to do more than enough to not only make the 53-man roster, but also make a strong impact for the New Orleans defense. Sean Payton is giving him a shot. We’ll see if he takes advantage of it.
