Karsten Warholm breaks own world record to win gold in 400-meter hurdles (Video)

Norway’s Karsten Warholm broke his own world record in the 400-meter hurdles to win a gold medal.

The Tokyo Olympics have seen world records getting broken, such as United States swimmer Caeleb Dressel breaking the mark in the 100-meter butterfly. Norway track and field athlete Karsten Warholm decided to break a record of his own in the 400-meter hurdles final.

While Warholm did have some serious competition in Rai Benjamin of the United States, he won the 400-meter hurdles final in 45.94-seconds. That time set by Warholm is now a world and Olympic record.

Norway’s Karsten Warholm breaks world record in 400-meter hurdles

Warholm previously set the world record in 400-meter hurdles last month by clocking in at 46.70-seconds at the Diamond League track and field athletics meeting. The previous world record was set back in the 1992 Olympic Games by Kevin Young of the United States, who clocked in at 46.78-seconds, which stood as the Olympic record until Warholm broke it in this race.

Benjamin took the silver medal with a time of 46.17-seconds, while Brazil’s Alison dos Santos received the bronze medal with a time of 46.72 seconds. Those times also beat Young’s record.

The men’s 400-meter hurdles final at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will officially go in the history books.
