3 free agents Mavericks should target other than Kyle Lowry

Spencer Dinwiddie could thrive playing with a massive chip on his shoulder
If there is one player who make perhaps the most sense in Dallas, it would have to been Brooklyn Nets shooting guard Spencer Dinwiddie. Despite successfully reinventing himself in Brooklyn, his role with the Nets has been marginalized with last year’s blockbuster trade for James Harden. He is also coming off an injury-riddled NBA season where he only played in three games in 2020-21.
So for a slight premium and not having to be subjected to a state income tax, Dinwiddie could venture to Dallas for the right dollar amount because the opportunities are too good to pass up. He is still in his 20s and would welcome the opportunity to start in the backcourt and be along for the Doncic ride in Dallas. Dinwiddie is not an All-Star, but he is better than a reserve in Brooklyn.
Admittedly, it is not like Jason Kidd will have to do a ton of coaching up to get the most out of a cerebral player like Dinwiddie. He has carved out a nice NBA career up to this point. While his Mavericks arrival may not improve the team’s ceiling a ton, it does help elevate the floor a bit. Dinwiddie is a quality free agent the Mavericks can land, but they may want to add a bigger piece.
Dallas may be able to save money by adding Dinwiddie, even if they pay a slight premium for him.
