New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole will miss his next scheduled start after he tested positive for COVID-19.

The New York Yankees were coming off a three-game sweep of the Miami Marlins as they entered Monday night’s game against the rival Baltimore Orioles. The Yankees fell to the Orioles by the score of 7-1 after trade deadline acquisition Andrew Heaney surrendered four home runs. Gerrit Cole was scheduled to start on Tuesday night, but that is no longer the case.

Following Monday’s game, Yankees manager Aaron Boone revealed that Cole will not start on Tuesday due to testing positive for COVID-19.

This is not the first time that the Yankees have dealt with COVID-19 issues on the team. Immediately following the All-Star break, the team placed six players on the COVID-19 list, including Aaron Judge, Gio Urshela, Jonathan Loaisiga, Nestor Cortes Jr., Kyle Higashioka and Wandy Peralta.

Through 21 starts, Cole recorded a 3.11 ERA, a 0.990 WHIP and 176 strikeouts over 130.1 innings of work. Cole carries a 10-6 win-loss record and pitched two complete games.

Boone said that Cortes will likely get the start for the Yankees on Tuesday against the Orioles.
