Former five-star wide receiver Bru McCoy has been suspended by USC leading up to fall camp following his arrest last month.
The controversial career of standout wide receiver Bru McCoy with USC has been a headache for Clay Helton and things are only getting worse. Last month, McCoy was arrested on felony charges of partner violence.
Now, with fall camp right around the corner, Helton has been left with no choice but to suspend the troubled wideout. According to USCFootball.com, the redshirt sophomore was released on $50,000 bail on July 24 following the incident. Now, his future with the Trojans is completely up in the air.
Bru McCoy has been suspended by USC following his arrest for felony partner violence
Shortly after the news broke that McCoy had been suspended by the team, the university released a statement when asked by the incident by 247Sports.
“USC does not condone violence of any kind,” the statement said. “We are aware of the situation, and USC’s Office for Equity, Equal Opportunity, and Title IX is reviewing it. Because of federal student privacy laws, we are unable to share additional information at this time. The student-athlete has been temporarily removed from team activities.”
A 5-star prospect from the 2019 class, McCoy signed with USC and enrolled early with the program. Soon after getting on campus, McCoy left the team and transferred to Texas. His time with the Longhorns didn’t last long, as McCoy then ended up transferring back to USC before the ’19 campaign got underway.
He didn’t play in a game that year, but made his debut last season during the shortened season. On the year, McCoy caught 21 balls for 236 yards and two touchdowns in six games. He was hoping to make an even bigger impact in 2021, but his legal troubles very well may prevent him from seeing the field.
