2021 Olympics men’s basketball gold medal game: How to watch online
The U.S. men’s basketball team will look to secure gold in the Olympic basketball tournament by winning a rematch against France.
It hasn’t always been smooth sailing for the U.S. men’s basketball team in this Olympic cycle. Losses to Nigeria and Australia in exhibition games were concerning but a loss to France in the first group stage game of the Olympic basketball tournament raised alarm bells about the U.S.’ gold medal chances.
Gregg Popovich’s team has righted the ship nicely since then, ripping off four straight wins to secure a spot in the gold medal game, including victories over Spain in the quarterfinals and Australia in the semifinals. Kevin Durant led the way for the United States in the win over Australia, scoring 23 points and grabbing nine rebounds, while Jrue Holiday contributed 11 points, eight rebounds and eight assists to play a key role.
The opposition in this game will be France, which survived a late push from Luka Doncic and Slovenia to earn their spot in the gold medal game. A key block by Nicolas Batum in the final seconds sealed the win for France, which saw Nando De Colo lead the way with 25 points while new Knick Evan Fournier added 23 points of his own.
This contest is a rematch of the first group stage game of the tournament for both teams, which France won 83-76 thanks to some poor shooting on the U.S. side, which shot just 36.2 percent from the floor. A better performance from the field should boost the United States’ odds of capturing the gold medal once again.
