Manchester United set reasonable asking price for Paul Pogba
Manchester United suddenly seem very willing to sell Paul Pogba this summer. Both Juventus and PSG can easily afford the English club’s new asking price.
Paul Pogba’s future is still very much up in the air just weeks away from the start of the Premier League campaign. Manchester United would love to sign him to a contract extension, but the odds now favour the French talisman making a sensational move away from Old Trafford before the summer transfer window slams shut.
Both Juventus and PSG continue to be the two clubs most prominently linked with the talented midfielder. The question has always been what price United might command to let him leave with 12 months left on his contract. According to Goal, the English giants have set that asking price at the very reasonable sum of just £50 million.
That may seem like a paltry fee for a player of Pogba’s caliber, but his rapidly declining contract is a concern for any club interested in parting with serious cash to acquire him. Presumably, any club that signs Pogba away from United this summer will also need to be prepared to ink him to a lucrative new contract.
Are United selling Pogba on the cheap?
The ugly truth for United fans is that their favorite club just doesn’t have any useful leverage to deploy on this transfer saga. Pogba’s performance hasn’t quite lived up to the massive hype accompanying his arrival at United, and the criticism the player has received is a big reason why he’s so interested in finding a new challenge.
United officials know that. So do officials employed by every other big club on the continent. If United don’t want to watch Pogba leave for nothing on a free transfer next summer, they have to be reasonable with their asking price now. That’s why £50 million is a reasonable request. It’s a significant amount of money, but it’s also a relative bargain for a player with Pogba’s prodigious talent.

Perhaps United can strike up a bidding war between Juventus and PSG, but the chances of them receiving a fee significantly north of their asking price are pretty remote. United fans need to get used to the idea of letting Pogba leave on a cut-rate deal this summer.
