QB, Steelers. player. Pick Analysis. . Josh Dobbs. 1. 55. Scouting Report

The biggest long-term question in the Steelers’ organization is who will succeed Ben Roethlisberger under center. Mason Rudolph still has a chance to prove he can be the guy, and he will start the Hall of Game against Dallas with plenty of run ahead of him in the preseason. The team’s offseason flier on Dwayne Haskins added an interesting candidate to the mix. Early indications are Haskins has looked good in training camp, and preseason will provide him with a nice opportunity to get his career on track.

Then there’s Dobbs, a fourth-round pick by Pittsburgh in 2017 who has 17 regular season pass attempts on  his resume. Being behind Roethlisberger has been a factor in that lack of meaningful action. But “Big Ben” missed most of the season in 2019, and Dobbs never got on the field as Rudolph and Devlin Hodges had usurped him.

With Roethlisberger unlikely to play much (if at all) during the preseason, the battle for the other spots on the quarterback depth chart will be on center stage for the Steelers. Dobbs lingers as the odd-man out, and with an assumed opportunity to play a lot on Thursday night he could be an early cut if he doesn’t perform well.
