White Sox fans had a party on Twitter getting #FlyTheL trending after besting the Cubs in extra innings at Wrigley Field.
Chicago got quite a show on Friday at the start of this weekend’s series between the Cubs and White Sox at Wrigley Field.
In the end, the White Sox came out on top with some extra-inning fireworks.
Had the Cubs won, Twitter would have been filled with #FlyTheW. Instead, White Sox fans flooded timelines with a troll hashtag: #FlyTheL

A quick search of Twitter reveals a bunch of fans enjoying the victory at the expense of their city rivals.
An ugly win is still a win. I’ll take it! My neighborhood is all salty & pissed. I’m definitely all for it! Go #WhiteSox #FlyTheL pic.twitter.com/ZAfDrJ7RsQ

The game had all the hallmarks of a rivalry bout with neither team keen to give up. The Sox took the lead in the fourth with RBI singles from Andrew Vaughn and Seby Zavala.
In the seventh, the Cubs hit back with a sacrifice fly from David Bote.
When Cesar Hernandez smacked a two-run homer in the top of the eighth, the White Sox held a 4-1 advantage.
Things took an entirely unexpected turn when former Cubs closer Craig Kimbrel took the mound in the bottom of the eighth. He gave up a three-run home run to Anthony Romine, who hadn’t hit a homer since 2017. Just like that, it was all tied up.
Extra innings were required, but the White Sox made sure it wouldn’t go longer than 10. Brian Goodwin hit a home run and Gavin Sheets and Tim Anderson drove in runs to double up their score, 8-4.
Despite Frank Schwindel’s two-run homer to lead off the bottom of the 10th, Garrett Crochet closed out the victory.
The two Chicago clubs will continue the fight with games on Saturday and Sunday.
