It was never going to be easy, but Kevin Durant and Team USA got it done in Tokyo, as they defeated France in the gold medal game to remain the world’s preeminent basketball superpower.
While many top NBA players did not elect to play for Team USA this year, Durant and several other marquee stars ventured across the globe to make it four gold medals in a row for the men’s national team. Though they dropped a few exhibition games along the way, this team came together to avoid international embarrassment on the hardwood. The payoff was Olympic gold.

Long-time San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is overcome with emotion after guiding Team USA to another gold medal. The 72-year-old NBA lifer is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, so this moment had to be one of the best of his life as a basketball coach.
Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine and Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker celebrate Olympic gold together in Tokyo. This was a breakout season for both backcourt stars. LaVine is a franchise cornerstone they are building around in Chicago. Booker helped guide Phoenix to an impressive Western Conference Championship and a trip to the 2021 NBA Finals.
Milwaukee Bucks teammates Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton have had an incredible summer. Not only did they help guide the Bucks to their first NBA Championship in half a century, but they contributed in a big way towards America winning Olympic gold over France over in Tokyo.
Durant was the best player to represent Team USA in the Olympics this year, so you better believe he knew what to do at the podium with his new gold medal.
