Russell Wilson wants the Seattle Seahawks to resolve their Duane Brown contract dispute.
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is urging the franchise to resolve the contract dispute it has with starting offensive tackle Duane Brown during training camp.
“Not having Duane Brown out there is, you know, a pretty significant deal,” said Wilson Sunday to The Seattle Times. “Because I think he’s one of the best left tackles in the game. There’s no arguing it. I think he’s as good as it gets.”
Wilson later added, “We definitely want to be able to get him back out there. We’ve got to figure that out. Because we need Duane Brown.”
Brown is in the final year of his deal with the Seahawks worth $10 million in base salary ahead of his age-36 season out of Virginia Tech.
Seattle Seahawks: Russell Wilson wants Duane Brown to get back on the field
Brown along with Seahawks safety Jamal Adams are participating in sit-ins during Seahawks training camp. While hold-outs were the course of action prominent throughout many training camps previously, this seems to be the new way they are settling contract disputes in the NFL now. Simply, if Seattle wants to make the playoffs, the Seahawks will need Adams and Brown.
Seattle plays in arguably the toughest division in football. It is conceivable that all three wild card teams come out of the NFC West this season. Though Seattle won the division a year ago, they lost at home to the division rival Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card round. Now that the Rams have added Matthew Stafford at quarterback, Los Angeles is seen as the favorite in the NFC West.
Brown may still be able to play tackle at a high level, but keep in mind this is a salary cap league.
