If the Yankees don’t secure a playoff spot this season after their trade deadline dealing, expect these three figures to leave New York.

The Yankees’ playoff hopes are in a precarious position. New York is 2.5 games out of a wild card spot with an outside hope of pinching the Rays for an unlikely AL East title.

Activity at the trade deadline set them up to chase a postseason berth, adding Joey Gallo and Anthony Rizzo. Of course, those moves also raised the stakes if they fail to clinch.

Who will be on their way out of town if they don’t get in?

The Yankees expect a lot of their manager and Boone is walking on thin ice because of it.

Boone made the playoffs in his first three seasons in charge, but he’s only finished first in the AL East once. NY’s win percentage dropped to .550 last season and they’re hovering in that range again this year.

With one of baseball’s largest payrolls, second place isn’t acceptable. Third place and missing the playoffs? That’s a fireable offense.

In fact, making the playoffs alone may not be enough to save Boone’s job. He’s advanced beyond the ALDS once. The pressure is on.
