NBA rumors: Mavericks join Pelicans with interest in Bulls’ Lauri Markkanen

The Dallas Mavericks have formally expressed interest in restricted free agent, Lauri Markkanen, joining the New Orleans Pelicans.

The New Orleans Pelicans have made some changes this offseason, including the signing of Devonte’ Graham just a few weeks back. Now, they’ve registered interest in restricted free agent Lauri Markkanen. But the Pels aren’t the only ones with an interest in the Chicago Bulls forward.

The Dallas Mavericks have expressed their own interest in the Finnish player as well, per The New York Times’ Marc Stein. The Mavs can round out their money to $11 million a year, which doesn’t sound too bad for Markkanen … if no better offer emerges on the open market, that is.

The Bulls are looking to keep their lucky streak going as well, while freezing out Markkanen in the process. Stein reported early Tuesday afternoon that the goal is to get a first-round pick for next season.

Will the Bulls be able to find any suitors? The Mavs and the Pels are interested, but they may not want to give up a first-rounder. Though the Bulls look to get Markkanen out of the picture, he’s still a solid player, averaging 13.6 points and 5.3 rebounds a game last season.

The Mavericks have heavy hitters with Luka Doncic, and Tim Hardaway Jr., while the Pels are trying to add to their collection. Markkanen would be a solid addition to both teams, but it’ll all boil down to who will be willing to meet Chicago’s demands.
