Reports says Colts could have Carson Wentz, Quenton Nelson for Week 1

There may be some good news on the horizon for Frank Reich’s team. The Indianapolis Colts could have two key players ready for their season opener.

A few weeks ago, things were looking pretty gloomy for a team that won 11 games a year ago and reached the playoffs. The news that quarterback Carson Wentz and eventually perennial All-Pro left guard Quenton Nelson may see their season debuts delayed due to foot surgery cast a dark shadow on the club’s 2021 aspirations.

The prognosis for both players was a recovery process of 5-12 weeks. But if you’re a gambler and hypothetically bet the under per say when it comes to their recovery, you may be feeling pretty good about both player’s chances of being on the field when the team hosts the Seattle Seahawks on the opening Sunday.

According to sources via ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, there is optimism that the signal-caller and the superior blocker may be ready sooner than later. The former is in his first season with the organization and is looking to rejuvenate his career. Nelson is arguably the best player in the league at his position and has yet to miss a game during his brief three-year career.

After starting every game during his rookie season with the Eagles, the second overall pick in the 2016 has been plagued by injuries the past four seasons. He was dealt to the Colts this year and reunited with Frank Reich, his one-time offensive coordinator in Philadelphia during his first two seasons in the league.

Yes, the Colts have reached the postseason twice under their current head coach but the franchise hasn’t won the AFC South since 2014. But one day after the team announced that Reich and general manager Chris Ballard received contract extensions there’s more promising news in regards to these two players. It figured to be an intriguing year for this team and things just got a little more interesting.
