Which prospects should the Astros call up next?

Shawn Dubin

Speaking of relievers, Shawn Dubin has the potential to bring the heat from the bullpen.

Dubin is still waiting for his shot at a major league appearance, but his stint in AAA this year could be the proof Houston needs to bring him up.

He’s 2-2 this season with an ERA of 4.63. The start of the season wasn’t perfect and he missed a month of action. Since coming back, he’s been electric. What’s really impressed observers is his fiery fastball.

His viability as a starter is still in question with some ups and downs on his record. That’s not what the Astros would need him for this year. It’s clear he has the stuff to contribute his best in short stints. It’s time to give him the chance.

Houston is in a good position going into September. They’re 68-46 and sitting atop the AL West. However, the Athletics are only 1.5 games behind, so they can’t rest on their laurels. September call ups will matter.
