Miami, BYU schedule home-and-home series beginning in 2026
By John Buhler
Miami football fans will welcome the BYU football team in 2026 as part of a home-and-home.
After having not played each other in well over a generation, college football fans are getting an exciting home-and-home series between Miami and BYU.
Miami will host BYU at Hard Rock Stadium on Sept. 19, 2026. BYU will then host the Hurricanes in Provo, Utah on Sept. 2, 2028.
“We are excited to add BYU to our future football schedule,” Director of Athletics Blake James said in a release. “We remain committed to scheduling top programs for our non-conference games and showcasing The U across the country.”
The last time the Miami Hurricanes faced the BYU Cougars in the gridiron was in 1990 when No. 16 BYU upset No. 1 Miami 28-21 in Provo. This was during the first wave of “The U” in Coral Gables. Cougars quarterback Ty Detmer went on to win the Heisman Trophy during that season. Miami will welcome BYU to Miami Gardens in 2026, with BYU hosting Miami in Provo in 2028.
Seeing two traditional football powers play each other in the non-conference will never get old.

Though neither program is undeniably championship-caliber at this point, both schools are coming off strong seasons in 2020. Miami looked infinitely better under head coach Manny Diaz and will be a fixture inside of the AP Top 25 throughout the season this year. While BYU will pull back a bit with quarterback Zach Wilson playing in the NFL, the Cougars remain an elite Group of Five team.
Admittedly, the college football landscape could look completely different by the time the Hurricanes welcome the Cougars to Hard Rock Stadium. Will it still even be called Hard Rock Stadium by then? All jokes aside, you have to applaud schools with notable football programs getting on the phone and calling up somebody else of significance to play in the non-conference.
It is still five years out, but seeing Miami put BYU on the schedule should have fans really excited.
