White Sox pitcher Michael Kopech won’t find a bigger fan than Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, who was singing his praises during the Field of Dreams game.

Michael Kopech has his own personal cheering section in Missouri courtesy of Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs quarterback loves showering his old baseball rival with praise.

On Thursday, he got to do that during the MLB Field of Dreams game featuring Kopech’s White Sox and the New York Yankees.

Kopech pitched 1.1 innings in relief of Lance Lynn. He allowed one hit but no earned runs while striking out two. Critically, he got Chicago out of a mess in the sixth inning, coming on with men on first and second.

After Giancarlo Stanton grounded out to advance the runners, Kopech took down Luke Voit looking and Rougned Odor swinging.

Patrick Mahomes is Michael Kopech’s biggest fan

Mahomes loves him some Kopech fire. The two grew up near each other back in Texas and pitched against each other in their youth. At one point, Mahomes threw a no-hitter while Kopech struck out 12 in a game featuring both gifted athletes.

While Mahomes turned down opportunities to play baseball at the pro level in favor of football, Kopech worked his way through the farm system with the Red Sox and then White Sox. He made his MLB debut in 2018 but had to wait until this season to take a place in Chicago’s regular pitching staff.

This year, he’s 3-1 with an ERA of 2.60.

Mahomes, meanwhile, is getting ready for his fifth season in the NFL with an eye on another MVP award and Super Bowl trophy.
