Javy Baez gets official Mets welcome with first IL stint
By Mark Powell
The New York Mets placed Javy Baez on the injured list Friday evening, just hours after getting more bad news about Jacob deGrom.
Mets are gonna Mets.
It’s not their fault, but this cursed franchise always seems to deal with injuries down the stretch, getting some of the worst luck every damn season. It doesn’t matter who’s on the training staff.
Baez, who was acquired at the trade deadline from the Chicago Cubs with the hope of replacing Francisco Lindor (who is also injured), now is dealing with back spasms. Because of this, he has been placed on the 10-day injured list.
New York Mets can’t catch a break with Javy Baez injury
The Mets are within a half-game of the division-leading Philadelphia Phillies, and only a half-game above the third-place Atlanta Braves. Hence, Baez going on the injured list in the middle of August is a big deal.
New York’s late-July into early-August collapse seems to be behind them after taking care of business against the Washington Nationals. Unfortunately, now they face much stiffer competition in a home contest against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Good luck with that.
With Baez on the IL, it seems the Mets will turn to Jonathan Villar at the position for now.
