Will LSU mandate vaccines to attend football games like the Saints?

With the New Orleans Saints implementation of requiring a negative COVID test or proof of vaccination, will the LSU Tigers follow suit with a mandate of their own? 

New Orleans has mandated that Saints fans and visitors will have to show either a negative COVID test within 72 hours of the game in question, or a vaccination card in order to attend games in the Caesar’s Superdome according to NOLA.com. There (obviously) was pushback and dialogue on why this is great, or why it’s absolutely terrible.

The reality is that Louisiana accounts for one of the lowest vaccination rates in the country, with 37 percent of residents receiving the first dose fully vaccinated. Compare this to Vermont, who has a vaccination rate of nearly 67 percent, is a bit alarming.

New Orleans is one of the most populous cities in the state, but what about Baton Rouge? Will the LSU Tigers follow suit in New Orleans’ ruling?

Here’s what LSU can learn from the Saints and how they can implement their own mandate to keep players and fans safe

Besides the Saints, the Tigers are the team for Louisiana. Partner classes starting up with football season also starting in a few weeks and things could get ugly. Luckily for the football team, they can brag that they’re nearly 100 percent vaccinated.

This is great for the team, especially after what they faced last season. But what about the spectators?

Tiger Stadium holds 26 thousand more fans than the Superdome and tailgates are a beast within itself. As a Saints fan and Tigers fan, it would be best to follow the Saints lead. Following the implementation of vaccination drives, onsite testing and mask handouts throughout Baton Rouge would be a great start.

Will there be pushback? Of course… but the people of Louisiana love their football, and I’m sure there’s a ton of eager (vaccinated) fans who would be happy to swipe up any tickets at will call if this were to come to fruition.
