The Boston Red Sox need to bolster their roster to push for the postseason. Here are two prospects that can help them out in September.

The Boston Red Sox spent the majority of the first half of the 2021 campaign in first-place in the AL East. That has since changed following the trade deadline, as the team has fallen into the second AL Wild Card spot, while the Tampa Bay Rays have taken first.

Boston obviously has World Series aspirations, and why wouldn’t they? They looked like the favorites to represent the AL in the Fall Classic. But, they need to regain their ground, and to do so, they will need some help from their prospects. Here are two that should receive a call-up by September.

When it comes to the Red Sox, they really do not need to address hitting ahead of the month of September. But where they need some serious help at is with starting pitching. The Red Sox are obviously banking on Chris Sale to return to form and become the ace of the starting rotation. But it never hurts to add a left-handed pitching prospect to their roster.

Hence why they should call up Chris Murphy this September.

Murphy is Boston’s 17th-overall prospect in the farm system, and has put up relatively solid numbers in the minor leagues this season. Through 14 starts in Single-A+ Greenville, Murphy posted a 4.21 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP and 81 strikeouts over 68.1 innings of work. Murphy logged two starts with Double-A, where he owns a 3.60 ERA and 14 strikeouts through 10.0 innings.

If the Red Sox want to contend, they need to add to their pitching depth as much as they can. Murphy should be an option for them.
