Justin Fields reaction to his Bears debut will fire up fans
Bears rookie quarterback Justin Fields was asked about the speed of the game against the Dolphins. His response will fire up Chicago fans.
Justin Fields impressed the NFL world with his debut in the preseason, flashing a great arm, poise and athleticism. What might be the most surprising aspect of his game came after the fact.
When asked about how he adjusted to the speed of the game at the NFL level, Fields had a surprising answer.
“It was actually kind of slow to me, to be honest,” Fields said, per Adam Hoge of NBC Sports Chicago.
Justin Fields thought the game was slow in his preseason Bears debut
If you’re a Bears fan, that’s precisely the kind of thing you want to hear.
Typically, it takes quarterbacks time to get used to how fast things move in the NFL. Defenders are bigger, stronger and faster than they’re used to seeing in college. It only makes sense.
Fields already feeling up to speed bodes well. It may even hint that the rookie is capable of starting in 2021.
The former Ohio State star is known for his unflappable demeanor. He’s cool-headed all the time. If anyone was going to step onto an NFL field and fit right in, he’s one of those guys.
Still, it’s crucial Fields doesn’t get too overly confident. Preseason games predominantly feature backups and guys fighting to make the roster. That’s who he faced on Saturday. Things might feel a whole lot quicker when there are Pro Bowlers on the other side of the line of scrimmage.
Fields finished his debut with 142 yards on 14-of-20 passing. He threw a 30-yard touchdown pass and ran in a score from eight yards out. Both TDs came in the third quarter, giving the Bears a comeback victory, 20-13.
