White Sox: 2 prospect call ups that must happen in September
By Scott Rogust
The White Sox relied heavily on their prospects to play the outfield in the early goings of the season with Robert and Jimenez sidelined. One of those players was Gavin Sheets, who primarily played at first base during his time in the minors.
Sheets received a call-up earlier this season, where he made his debut on June 29 against the Minnesota Twins. Splitting time between first base, outfield and designated hitter, Sheets slashed .225/.293/.483 while recording six home runs, 16 RBI, 10 runs scored and 20 hits. He last played for the White Sox on Aug. 7, where he was then optioned back to Triple-A Charlotte after Robert was activated off the injured list.
In his very first game back in Triple-A on Aug. 10, Sheets clobbered a massive solo home run. Through his 46 games in Charlotte this season, Sheets owns a .299 batting average and .850 OPS, while recording eight home runs, 37 RBI, 25 runs scored and 53 hits.
Given Sheets has played for a decent chunk of games in Chicago this season, it makes sense for the White Sox to give him another shot this September. Besides, he would make for a great pinch-hitting option for the White Sox.
