Barcelona targeting Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in potential massive player swap with Arsenal

Before the transfer deadline arrives, Barcelona is eyeing a move to potentially land striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Arsenal. 

In what’s been a busy summer for Barcelona, highlighted of course by letting Lionel Messi leave and sign with Paris Saint-Germain, could the team bring in one of the top Premier League strikers in the coming weeks?

According to Sky Sports, Barcelona has reached out to Arsenal to gauge its interest in a move that would have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang head to La Liga. In exchange, Phillipe Coutinho would make his way to London. Will this end up going down?

While Aubameyang recently signed a contract extension to commit his future to the Gunners, there’s no denying Arsenal has hit a bit of a rough patch. The team finished in eighth place of the Premier League table last season, which of course was a major disappointment.

To start the new season off – without Aubameyang on the pitch due to injury – Arsenal suffered a stunning 2-0 defeat to Brentford. It was Brentford’s first EPL match in 74 years, yet they went on to dominate Arsenal. Mikel Arteta’s job security really feels up in the air.

Barcelona is looking to take advantage of this by trying to get Aubameyang to Catalonia. Should he make his way to La Liga, Aubameyang would then immediately be in a title race with Barcelona. Looking ahead, it could be years until Arsenal competes for major trophies again.

Only time will tell if the Gunners will actually consider this proposal from Barcelona. Fans would be heartbroken if Aubameyang were to leave, as the Arsenal supporters want to see him at full health making plays with Bukayo Saka. We’ll see what ends up going down in this case.
