According to Ian Rapoport, the Seahawks and safety Jamal Adams have reached an agreement on a monster four-year extension.
The back-and-forth dance between Jamal Adams and the Seattle Seahawks front office has finally come to an end. With Adams waiting for Seattle to put a sexy contract offer on the table, there was concern among the fanbase that Adams wouldn’t be on the field for Week 1.
Fortunately for those folks, that won’t be the case. On Tuesday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport has reported that Adams and the Seahawks have agreed to a big-time four-year extension worth $70 million. Of that massive sum, $38 million is guaranteed.
The #Seahawks have agreed to terms on a large extension for star S Jamal Adams, a 4-year, $70M deal that makes him the league’s highest paid safety, I’m told. He gets $38M guaranteed, breaking the stalemate. A long time coming and well-deserved. 💰💰💰

NFL Twitter is going nuts over Jamal Adams’ new contract with the Seahawks
With his new deal, Adams is now the highest-paid safety in the game. This was his goal from the start of the contract negotiations. Per Rapoport, the two sides were previously close to making this happen earlier this summer, but there were some issues over the guaranteed money being put on the table.
Now, Seattle has given Adams exactly what he’s wanted. As you might have been able to guess, people are losing their minds on social media over the news.
Jamal Adams’ deal with the #Seahawks has a max value of $72 million over four years, meaning he could reach the $18 million per year plateau (i.e. Bobby Wagner’s average) with team and individual performance.

Seattle felt they were close on Jamal Adams about two weeks ago, but after Pete Carroll and Jamal Adams spoke, Adams appeared dug in. Today, he took the offer that resets safety market in big way.

There was always the thought this would get done before the start of the season. And Seattle is known for getting these done at this time. He’s been at practice every day. Now we’ll assume he’ll actually be practicing. https://t.co/QwKorTbb3A

Adams has been in Renton for each practice at training camp, but he wasn’t actually practicing as part of his holdout. Russell Wilson made it clear he wanted to get Adams back in action, while he’s also ready for Duane Brown to get back to work as well.
Now that things were finalized with Adams, John Schneider’s next move will be to make Brown happy as well. For Adams, the superstar defensive back will now look to live up to his extension. Seahawks fans have no doubt he’ll be able to do so.
