Here’s why Tyrann Mathieu has to love Jamal Adams’ new contract
With Jamal Adams agreeing to his massive extension, this is of course great news for Kansas City Chiefs standout Tyrann Mathieu.
Massive news has arrived out of Seattle, as the Seahawks and Jamal Adams have reached a deal on a $70 million extension. With this, Adams is now the highest-paid safety in the game, which is what he’s wanted for a while.
While that’s great news for him and Seattle, the pressure is now on Brett Veach to get things done with Tryann Mathieu. Mathieu himself wants a big-time deal from the Kansas City Chiefs and seeing Adams’ contract details will only help him in his negotiations.
Tyrann Mathieu will now look to land a big new deal from the Kansas City Chiefs
With his $70 million contract, and $36 million of that being guaranteed, Adams has no question raised the bar for safety pay moving forward. This has to bring a smile to Mathieu’s face, as he’s getting ready to receive his big payday.
For Mathieu, he won’t be getting an extension that will top Adams’, as the Seahawks star is 25 and Mathieu is 29. At the same time, Mathieu knows his worth for Kansas City’s defense and he’ll want a contract that is close to Adams’ annual figure.
Mathieu is entering the final year of his three-year, $42 million contract with the Chiefs. While he’s not going to hold out or cause any drama for Kansas City in the middle of talks, he knows that it will be on Veach to step up and make him happy money wise.
The sooner Kansas City is able to get things done with Mathieu the better. Now, though, Adams’ contract will 100 percent be brought up in future talks between the two sides moving forward until the pen is put to paper.
