Andre Dillard simply hasn’t lived up to the hype with the Philadelphia Eagles and it may be time for the team to send him packing.
There was so much promise for left tackle Andre Dillard when he was taken in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. A former All-American at Washington State University, Eagles fans were ready to see Dillard be a force in the trenches for years to come.
Fast forward to present time, however, and it’s up in the air if Dillard will even be with the team this season. According to NFL insider Jeff McLane, multiple teams have reached out to Philadelphia about a possible trade for Dillard. Could this go down before Week 1?
The Eagles and Howie Roseman should look to trade Andre Dillard as soon as possible
Plain and simple, the Eagles need to make a move here. While Dillard indeed had so much promise, he struggled his rookie season and then missed all of 2020 due to a biceps injury. While he had impressed in the spring and was ready to go out and win the starting job for 2021, he’s been dealing with a sprained knee at camp.
With Dillard sidelined, fellow left tackle Jordan Mailata has taken hold of the No. 1 job and has looked great. Because of this, even when Dillard is back fully healthy, the chances of him winning the job back appear slim to none.
While Eagles supporters really wanted things to work out with Dillard, the opposite has been the case. Yes, he’s still young and has loads of potential, but if Mailata is owning the position, why just keep Dillard around? If teams throw a sexy enough offer on the table for him, Philadelphia shouldn’t think twice in trading Dillard.
