Rein Taaramae reins in others to win La Vuelta a Espana Stage 3

Rein Taaramae won his second-ever La Vuelta stage as he powered over the finish line on August 16 in 2021 La Vuelta a Espana’s Stage 3.

Rein Taaramae won 2021 La Vuelta a Espana Stage 3 on August 16, taking his second ever stage win in the event. He won his last stage in La Vuelta a Espana over a decade ago.

Riding for Team Intermarche-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux, he also took the lead, moving away from the break on the Picon Blanco climb and giving himself a chance to wear the red jersey. He was part of the breakaway that formed fifteen minutes into the 202-kilometer-long stage.

He then moved away from the breakaway within the final three kilometers to take the lead.

Rein Taaramae takes first in 2021 La Vuelta a Espana overall standings

The finish put him in the lead in the overall general classification standings with 25 seconds over Team Trek-Segafredo’s Kenny Elissonde and Primoz Roglic in third place thirty seconds behind Elissonde.

Elissonde was third on the stage behind Joe Dombrowski from UAE Team Emirates.
