The LSU football program is being sued by former Tigers offensive line coach James Cregg.

James Cregg has filed a lawsuit after being let go from the LSU football team back in June.

The former offensive line coach of the LSU Tigers was terminated for supposedly visiting a recruit and handing out team gear during the recruiting dead period last year. His lawsuit says he never received a ruling from the NCAA that he committed an infraction during last season’s COVID recruiting dead period. This was the final year of his contract and was slated to make $700,000.

Something is fishy surrounding Cregg’s termination, mostly because it happened during June.

From the lawsuit, it seems like Cregg is not denying that he committed a recruitment violation during a COVID year, but rather he wanted the NCAA to make a decision first before LSU inevitably did. Given that committing recruitment violations during an explicitly stated dead period like the one we saw last year with COVID is a terrible look, Cregg may not have much room to stand on.

Regardless, it has been an incredibly noisy last two years in Baton Rouge for Ed Orgeron’s LSU football program. Despite winning the national title two years ago, most people do not expect the Bayou Bengals to finish any better than third in the deep SEC West. The Tigers are coming off a dreadful 5-5 season by LSU standards. A disappointing 2021 could make Orgeron’s seat toasty.

Again, parting ways with Cregg back in June has to make you wonder if something else is up here.
