Ohio State football fans should be worried about their Buckeyes taking on these three teams.

Even if Ryan Day’s Ohio State football team is favored to win the Big Ten and reach the College Football Playoff once again, the Buckeyes need to keep an eye on these three teams this year.

Ohio State enters the season as one of the perceived five best teams in the country, as they should be. The Buckeyes are every bit the college football blue-blood, as this Big Ten powerhouse recruits like an elite SEC program. For that reason, anything short of another Big Ten title and a College Football Playoff berth should be viewed as a massive disappointment for the Buckeyes.

If any teams can ruin the Buckeyes’ massive expectations for 2021, what about these three?

The Penn State Nittany Lions are their biggest threat within the Big Ten East

2020 was an unmitigated disaster for James Franklin’s Penn State Nittany Lions program. However, they do return a veteran starting quarterback in Sean Clifford, and anything they do this season will be better than last season’s nadir. While Ohio State hosts Penn State this year, all the pressure will be on the Buckeyes to beat the Nittany Lions in The Horseshoe come late October.

Maybe this is the year the Wisconsin Badgers beat Ohio State in Indianapolis?

Though it has yet to happen, the Wisconsin Badgers stand as the Big Ten West’s best hope to finally win a title bout in Indianapolis. With Graham Mertz back at quarterback, Paul Chryst’s team not only has a terrific shot of winning the division but potentially stunning Day, C.J. Stroud and the rest of the Buckeyes at Lucas Oil Stadium. Wisconsin is very much in the mix to reach the playoff.

Ohio State would be foolish to sleep on the Pac-12 contender Oregon Ducks

Perhaps the biggest threat the Buckeyes will face this year comes in mid-September. That’s right. The Pac-12 favorite Oregon Ducks come to town on Sept. 11 with serious playoff aspirations on the line. Oregon is not only playing with house money in this game, but the Ducks have the roster top-to-bottom that can potentially upset the Buckeyes in The Horseshoe for all the world to see.
